  4. I made these tonight and they are awesome! I had bought about 2.5 lbs of cubes of meat to make beef stew but I wasn’t in the mood for that today. I searched for shredded beef taco recipes for the slow cooker and came across yours. I had all of the ingredients in my pantry so just substituted my beef cubes for the pot roast. Super easy and Delish! Thanks you!

  5. Just made these and they smell delicious! I think I’ll only use 1/2 can of beef broth next time because I had so much of the liquid left over OR use a bigger roast and make more tacos!

  6. Just got done eating…OMGoodness!!! So delicious! All the picky kiddos ate and wanted more! I had a tri-tip in my freezer that I wanted a new recipe for and this was absolutely amazing!

  7. I don’t typically use cooking spray…do you think it’s necessary? Since you’re braising the meat in broth I can’t imagine it would stick.

    1. LeeAnn,

No it’s not necessary to use the cooking spray

  8. Can you use broth made from bouillon cubes?

    Reply

    1. Yes. That’s the only way I make broth. So much cheaper than buying the cans 🙂

      1. Can’t remember the last time I bought the canned broth! I am making these for tonight 😉

  10. can i substitute lemon juice for the lime, or would be it okay without the lime?

    Reply

    1. The lime gives it a nice flavor but I think it’ll still be great without it!

    2. The citrus helps to break down the meat, it is a tenderizer, sub for lemon but don’t skip, makes it so tender.

  11. I make some sort of slow cooker roast about once every other week. And I have to say this is the easiest and most delicious one I have made. It is so simple and you barely have to touch the roast. And most importantly, everyone in my house loved it. And I kept the leftovers to put on my salad the next day for lunch. Thank you so much for this one!!

  15. Thank you for this recipe! Ive never made shredded beef ever and this recipe was so easy! I live in New Mexico so of course the only thing I did extra was added 3 times the amount of chile, using the dried chile that we have here as is tradition and it was absolutely Superb! Cheers!

  16. Use thus recipe all the time without changing anything, the best recipe ever! And super authentic, taste just like the meat at Mexican weddings!!

  17. I had a little extra time this AM (never happens!), so I browned the seasoned (s & p, garlic powder) roast before I added it to the crock pot. I thought it would give another layer of flavor. So excited for dinner tonight! We like things spicy, so I used a TBS of ‘regular’ chili powder, and 1/2 TBS of HOT Mexican chili powder.

  18. Have made this twice now. Excellent recipe! Saved! Even kid approved! =)

    1. Do you brown the roast in a pan before adding it to the crock pot? Every time i’ve cooked a roast, i’ve always browned it first.
      Thanks,

      1. You can brown it first if you’d like to, but it’s not necessary 🙂

  19. Going to try these tonight. Sounds great! How spicy are these tacos? I like mine more on the hot side. Any recommendations to add for that extra kick?

    Reply

    1. No They’re not really that spicy. If you want a little kick I would add diced green chilies and extra chili powder to your heat tolerance.

  23. Do you sear the roast before putting in the slow cooker? I usually do with chuck roast when making pot roast in the crock pot. Thanks!

    1. Sorry, just now seeing your comment. I don’t sear it first, but if you’d like to you sure can 🙂

  24. This sounds delicious! Planning to make for Christmas day as Mexican food is our family tradition. Does the chili powder give the meat any heat/spice or does it just give good flavor? We have someone coming over that can’t handle any spicy food so I just want to make sure it will be comfortable for her. Thanks!

    Reply

    1. No, the chili powder does not make it spicy at all. Just gives it great flavor! I hope your family enjoys these amazing tacos 🙂

      1. Thanks! I’ll let you know how it goes. Can’t wait to try them.

        1. A little delayed response from Christmas (I’m making them tomorrow so I looked up the recipe while at the grocery store), but they were SO good. Everyone loved them. They weren’t spicy but just had amazing flavor. My kids ask for this recipe all the time. 😉

  25. Made this for dinner tonight. Really yummy! I’d like to note that I pan seared my frozen roast then placed in the crock pot on low, it was done cooking 3 hrs later. I’m glad I checked it otherwise it would have been over cooked. Still delicious!

  26. does it come out great at high setting or do you ideally need to slow cook it for 8-10 hours??

    Reply

    1. I’m making this today so I’m not sure how this recipe will turn out yet but in my experience cooking it on low for 8 hours is a better option. Cooking it on high can sometimes make the beef tough, I’ve ruined a couple roasts that way.

  28. Is it possible to use chicken breast? N chicken stock to make shredded chicken tacos?

  29. So relish! I ran out of time to make pulled beef and I only had beef stew cubes SO, I cooked them up in the sauce for about 1 hour on the stove and then threw it in the food processor for about 5 secs to “shred” it. Put it back in the pan and although the texture was a little different, the flavour was sooo good! Will make again.

  30. Made a batch of this. Used a 1 1/2 pound beef chuck and a 1 1/2 pound bison chuck together. Beef is pretty dry but the bison is perfect and pulled apart much easier than the beef. Mixed them up in the broth to finish. Tasty!! I’ll probably use bison only next time.

This recipe has become my “Breakfast Taco” recipe for our family Christmas gathering (which we do the Sunday after Christmas). I cook the meat during the night, meet my kids and grandchildren at mass in the morning, then come back to the house, and shred the beef. Family members bring the toppings and everyone enjoys! It’s a delicious-yet-stress-free recipe!

  36. Which is the best method of cooking? Low or high? 10-12 hours is long.

    Reply

    1. The longer the beef slow cooks, the softer and more tender it will be. I get up early to start mine, so it can be ready around 5:00 or 6:00 for dinner. 🙂 I suggest a low temperature for 10 to 12 hours as stated in the recipe.
