Should I Make My Lemon Pepper Seasoning?

Lemon pepper seasoning is one of my favorite things to keep in my pantry. It has such a bright flavor and works well with chicken, pork, fish, or beef. It even works great on vegetables when grilling or roasting! Making it homemade isn’t necessary, but can be nice.

My favorite lemon pepper is the McCormick’s California Style Lemon Pepper. It is a blend of lemon, coarsely ground black pepper, salt, onion, and a little garlic.

It is always handy and a great option, but if you prefer you can make your own homemade lemon pepper seasoning to control the sodium content. You’ll need some dried lemon zest, ground black pepper, and if you want to enhance the flavor, add in some ground garlic and onion powder.

How Can I Prevent Pork Chops from Being Dry?

One of the most common questions when making grilled pork chops is how you can manage to make them cooked through but not dry. Well, the secret to this is actually in using a great food meat thermometer and following basic cook times.

If you know that your grill cooks evenly, you can follow guidelines for grilling on each side for 4-5 minutes depending on thickness. Of course, bone in or thicker pork chops can take longer, so be aware. Just make sure that your pork is heated to at minimum 145 degrees internally and allowed to rest for an additional 3 minutes for safety. You’ll have perfectly cooked moist but still safe to eat pork chops every time.

How to Get Perfect Grill Marks

I know in lots of households, grilling’s the guy’s job, but not at my house. I’m the grillmaster and I always try to get perfect crosshatch marks on whatever I’m grilling. The secret is to cook the meat until it easily releases from the grate, and then turn the chops 90 degrees. If you pull the meat up before it’s seared and releases easily from the grate, you’ll probably end up tearing the meat. It’s really just that simple!

Tip: Make sure your grill grates are clean every time before using. When you have food residue from past grilling it will prevent the food from releasing easily.

What to Serve with Grilled Pork Chops

These lemon pepper grilled pork chops are so delicious by themselves, but you need something to go on the side. I love serving these alongside a broccoli slaw salad, or garlic parmesan air fryer french fries. If you prefer something more traditional, roasted green beans with almonds are an ideal side dish with pork.

You can even simply throw some fresh vegetables on the grill beside the pork chops and have a simple healthy meal that cooks together!

  • Six boneless pork loin chops ¾ to 1 inch thick
  • California Style Lemon Pepper
  • Juice of one lemon
  • Olive Oil

Instructions

  • Preheat your barbecue grill on medium-high heat.

  • Sprinkle both sides of your pork chops with lemon pepper. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the pork chops. Flip the pork chops and squeeze the other half of the lemon over the other side of the pork chops. Spray or drizzle both sides of the chops with olive oil.

Flip the chops and grill 2 minutes, rotate the chops 90° and cook about 2 minutes longer. Insert an instant-read thermometer into the center of the chops to see if they are cooked to 145°, or cook until the center is no longer pink.
