There's an irresistible, creamy chicken filling waiting inside each of these Crescent Chicken Squares, but that's not all that makes these so good! A crunchy topping made from a surprising ingredient really takes 'em over the top!

What You'll Need

  • 1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
  • 2 cups chopped cooked rotisserie chicken
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon chopped red bell pepper (optional)
  • 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 3/4 cup seasoned croutons, crushed

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cream cheese and 2 tablespoons butter; stir in chicken, milk, and red pepper, if desired. Set aside.
  3. Unroll crescent dough, separating into 4 rectangles; press perforations to seal. Spoon 1/4 of the chicken mixture into the center of each rectangle; bring corners of each rectangle together over chicken mixture, and twist gently to seal.
  4. Place crushed croutons in a shallow dish. Brush chicken packets with remaining butter, dredge in croutons, and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  5. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden.

Notes

  • Serve these up with a side of veggies. We're thinking some Classic Creamed Spinach would be nice!

Simple, elegant and so yummy.great for a brunch with family or a ladies get together with a simple side salad or veggie.Ive played with the recipe on several occasions just to change it up. Added chopped celery to add some crunch. And, or a touch of garlic. Ive even made it with canned tuna or canned chicken. Ive added some cheese into the mix along with the cream cheese. And when making with tuna Ive even drizzled melted cheese or con queso cheese over the top. No matter how you do it they are great and get rave reviews from my guests.

These look so yummy that I may have to try them tomorrow. We love getting rotisserie chicken and this gives me an excuse to get two of them. Always make chicken salad with part of one. I. It looks very easy to assemble. I wonder if you could use stuffing mix crushed instead of croutons.

The filling in this recipe is great but we didn't enjoy the crescent rolls so the next time we made it we used puff pastry and that made it really tasty!

I've been making this since the 70's. Very easy but looks special. Great for women's luncheons. The original recipe in the pillsbury back off book called for boiled chicken, no peppers and a mushroom gravy made from canned soup. I add baby peas to the gravy. I just love this dish.

I was wondering if you can use chicken that has been boiled and shredded or canned chicken breasts? Thank You.

A rotisserie chicken is a whole chicken that can be bought in the deli section at Tops or Wegmans. It is already cooked by slow rotisserie (baked on a scewer slowly). Just ask at the deli and they will direct you. It is a delicious chicken and can be used on its own as a meal with mashed potatoes, gravy and veggie, or cut up and used for many recipes, soups, etc. It is very reasonable costwise too. Good luck!

What is "rotisserie chicken"?

That is the whole chicken you can buy at Tops, or Wegmans, in the deli section, it is already cooked by slow cooking rotisserie. They have them fresh every day. If you are still unsure, just ask and they'll tell you. It's a whole chicken, so you'll have to cut it up, but, it's already cooked. So good, even to use with other dinners, or just with mashed potatoes and gravy and veggie.

This has been a family favorite for my family for years. For my daughter who is a vegetarian i use frozen broccoli & cauliflower (partially cooked) in place of the chicken. These veggies are also great added to the chicken recipe. I always make extra as they freeze well.
